Strikethrough text is a useful feature in PowerPoint to cross out or create a line through text. Applying a strikethrough to text can be an effective way to indicate that specific text has been removed or deleted.

This blog post provides a list of the options for how to strikethrough text in PowerPoint, including a strikethrough shortcut.

Option 1: Strikethrough button on PowerPoint Home Tab

You can find a PowerPoint strikethrough text feature button on the Home tab in the Ribbon. To find it:

  • Select the text you want to strikethrough
  • Click the Home tab in the PowerPoint Ribbon
  • Click Strikethrough in the Font group. The Strikethrough button looks like this: abc 

To remove strikethrough, simply repeat the steps and click the Strikethrough button again.

Option 2: Using the Font Dialog Box

You can also find the strikethrough text option in the PowerPoint Font dialog box. To find it:

  • Select the text you want to strikethrough
  • Click the Home tab in the PowerPoint Ribbon
  • Click the dialog box launcher on the bottom right of the Font group
  • A dialog box will appear. Check the Strikethrough option under the Effects section. Note that there is also a Double Strikethrough option if you want two lines through your text
  • Click OK or press Enter

To remove strikethrough, follow the same steps and uncheck the Strikethrough or Double Strikethrough option.

Option 3: PowerPoint Strikethrough Shortcut

If you prefer to use PowerPoint shortcuts, there are two options for PowerPoint strikethrough shortcut:

Option A:

  • Select the text you want to strikethrough
  • Press Ctrl + T or Ctrl + Shift + F. This will open the Font dialog box.
  • Press Alt + K to select the Strikethrough option. You can also press Alt + D to select the Double Strikethrough option.
  • Press Enter or click OK.

Option B

  • Select the text you want to strikethrough
  • Press the Alt key , then H and then 4

To remove strikethrough, use the same shortcut and press Alt + K or Alt + D again.

Option 4: Add Strikethrough to the Quick Access Toolbar

You can add Strikethrough to the PowerPoint Quick Access Toolbar, which would allow you to access the Strikethrough button with one click. To do this:

  • Click the down arrow to the right of the Quick Access Toolbar (typically located at the top left corner of your screen, above or below the Ribbon)
  • Select More Commands from the drop-down menu
  • A dialog box will appear. Under Choose commands from..., select Home Tab from the drop-down list
  • Scroll down and find the Strikethrough command. Select it, then click the Add button. You should see the Strikethrough command now move it to the right column
  • Click OK or press Enter

You should now see the Strikethrough button on your Quick Access Toolbar. You can use it to apply or remove strikethrough to any text you select.

Option 5: Add a custom PowerPoint shortcut
